Trail blazers

Before Cycas was formed they had a hand in every part of the development of the IHG Staybridge Suites extended-stay brand in the UK and Europe. From concept and design to development and operation, the team that was to become Cycas applied its unbeatable skill-set, and in 2008 opened the first European Staybridge Suites in Liverpool, England.
Recognising a winning formula when they see it, IHG and Marriott have worked with the Cycas team to develop brands across Europe.

Gold Medal Standard

When the 2012 London Olympics showed the world what a fantastic show the UK could put on, Cycas played a part in rolling out the welcome mat.

Cycas worked with Westfield to develop not one but two hotels within the Stratford Shopping Centre, which is now at the heart of what has become the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, funded via a joint venture with Patron Capital.
It was the kind of complex project that we relish. A 162 room Staybridge Suites and a 188 room Holiday Inn Hotel, constructed on top of an existing shopping centre. And just because we didn’t think that was quite tricky enough, the hotels had to be open and delivering the Cycas experience a few weeks before the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony.

Tight budgets and strict timetables are two things which Cycas actively enjoy, because we’re funny like that. Throughout construction we used our experience, know-how and determination to meet both criteria, delivering both hotels two months before the original opening date and below budget.

If you want to know how good a job Cycas did, just ask Westfield Construction and Westfield Centre management. They’ll provide glowing references covering the before, during and after of our time working together. You’ve probably noticed we’re quite keen on blowing our own trumpet, but it’s even more impressive when other people blow it for us.

How good were the hotels? Good enough to be the main 2012 Olympic headquarters for IHG, the British Swimming team and the Paralympics Committee.

Proof of the great job we did? After the hotels were sold in December 2012, the new owners retained Cycas as managers. The managers of the hotels have since contracted us to operate 3 more of their hotels After all, you don’t mess with a winning formula.

Westfield, Patron & Cycas Partnership

Overview

In conjunction with Westfield, Cycas developed two hotels within the Stratford shopping centre. The hotels, a 162 room Staybridge Suites and a 188 room Holiday Inn Hotel, were bought and forward funded by a Cycas / Patron Capital joint venture.

The project

The project was a highly complex building of two hotels on top of an existing shopping centre, made even more challenging because of the time pressure to open before the 2012 London Olympics.

Cycas proved able to act proactively to facilitate the timely delivery and create cost savings during the construction process. The hotels were delivered two months before the original planned date and with less than 2% of total budget changed as result of amendments to the plans.

Cycas has maintained good working relations with both Westfield Construction and Westfield Centre management (references are available), before, during, and after the process of developing and building these hotels.
