Cycas identified as top UK hospitality brand
On 3 July Cycas Hospitality scooped the hospitality industry’s ‘Best Employer Award’ at The Cateys 2018.
Cycas became one of just four companies shortlisted for the Best Employer Catey after being identified in April as one of the 30 Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2018¹. This accolade celebrates employers who understand how to treat their staff to get the best out of them.
Despite being up against some of the industry’s best-known companies, Cycas was named Best Employer at London’s Grosvenor House in front of 1,250 industry members. The coveted award win comes as Cycas celebrates its 10th anniversary and soon after receiving the ASAP ‘Investment in People’ Award.
Putting Cycadettes at the heart of the business
With 85% of respondents to the Best Places to Work survey saying they would recommend Cycas as a great place to work – a figure backed up by its 98% retention figure over the last year – judges praised the hospitality management company for having “a different way of looking at people development”². The hospitality experts also highlighted Cycas’s “brave steps to create a modern approach with a great sense of engagement”³ and commended the organisation for putting its “Cycadettes at the heart of the business”⁴.
John Wagner, Co-founder of Cycas Hospitality, said: “When we founded Cycas Hospitality a decade ago, we wanted to make our hotels the best places to work, as well as stay. To have been recognised by senior hospitality figures in our 10th anniversary year for our efforts to become the industry’s best employer is an absolute honour.
“At Cycas we always say our job isn’t over until we get a smile. So, with judges singling us out for our approach to employee engagement, there’s no doubt that we’ve got lots to smile and be proud about.”
To help Cycas stand out in a competitive industry and exceed guest expectations, the company has a history of employee initiatives that disrupt industry norms. From pioneering audition days that recruit hotel staff by personality over experience to creating a dedicated Culture Team last autumn that sets employees up for success, Cycas maintains that engaged employees will translate into happy, loyal guests and delighted stakeholders, from investors to hotel brands.
Janet Roberts, Cycas Hospitality’s Lead Culture Coach, explains: “As a people business, our Cycadettes are absolutely vital to making Cycas a commercial success. By ensuring we’re doing everything possible as employers to create a culture that inspires our talented employees to bring their best selves to work, we’re confident we can continue to inject our distinctive ‘positively outrageous service’ into every guest stay.”
