Building a long-term relationship with Hyatt

As a white label hotel operator, working closely with world-class hotel brands across Europe is an integral part of our business. The best partnerships are mutually beneficial, and that’s why we always approach them with the goal that everybody wins: our partners benefit from collaborating with specialists who know everything there is to know about hotel management, and we get to work with established brands from IHG to Marriott that trust us to create and run their hotels successfully.

In recent years we’ve introduced a third international partner into the mix; Hyatt. When we confirmed our first venture under the Hyatt flag in late 2016, and brought the second Hyatt Place hotel to the UK with our property at Heathrow Airport, we always hoped this would be the start of a great relationship.

Now, just two years later, we’re delighted that our journey together has taken us into new geographies. With five Hyatt properties already within the Cycas portfolio, including the global hotel group’s first dual-branded development in Europe, we’re also bringing new concepts to world travellers.

Our partnership began in late 2016 with the decision to rebrand the Heathrow Bath hotel to a Hyatt Place hotel. As only the second Hyatt Place property to open in the UK, we understood straight away how important it would be for the refurbishment and subsequent management to reflect the brand’s global values. What’s more, with an excellent location just moments from a major international gateway, this was a strategic opportunity to really showcase what the upscale brand could offer.

While Cycas’s roots are in extended-stay and double-decker hotels, our expertise in managing hotels that combine style with intuitive service set us up for success. Following an extensive renovation, including a full refurbishment of all rooms and public areas, the stylish 349-room Hyatt Place London Heathrow Airport was well received by guests and remains in the top two local properties on TripAdvisor.

Fast-forward a year and 2018 has brought many more milestones in our relationship, cementing our position as a proven partner and operator of the Hyatt brand within Europe.

In June, we were delighted to confirm a lease agreement to operate a Hyatt Place and Hyatt House on one site, with a combined total of 430 rooms, close to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. With building well underway and both properties expected to open in autumn 2020, this deal will always be very special to us. Not only does it mark Cycas’s first move into the French market but also Hyatt’s first dual-branded Hyatt property in Europe and the airport’s first extended-stay hotel.

Since then, we have continued to break new ground together. In September Cycas agreed its first stand-alone select-service hotel in mainland Europe, with the 78-room Hyatt Place hotel in Rouen; a converted 4,500m² 19th century building with striking views across the city, located close to several business parks and the main SNCF railway station. When it opens in 2021 the boutique-style hotel will offer meeting spaces, gym, swimming pool and spa. Pretty impressive for a compact property.

And more recently, we recently signed a management contract to operate the first Hyatt Place in central London. On target for a 2020 opening, the 280-room Hyatt Place London City/East at Black Lion House on Whitechapel Road in Aldgate incorporates high-quality rooms, combined with panoramic views across the capital from its ninth-floor lounge and terrace.

Given Cycas’s plans to triple our European portfolio over the next few years and our intention to cover mainstream as well as extended-stay hospitality sectors, we’re delighted that our relationship with Hyatt is going from strength to strength. Furthermore, we believe the speed with which we have become a partner of choice for this major international hotel franchise brand demonstrates how are ambitions are not only well-founded but also firmly on track.
