About us

When it comes to extended-stay hotels in Europe, we led from the beginning, pioneering and developing the concept. We know how to make hotel and extended stay operations work, from designing the room concepts to delivering positively outrageous service. From day one we treat our guests like good friends – delivering to them an amazing experience and putting a smile on their face.

When you work in partnership with us you’ll enjoy the complete Cycas experience. That means a team that knows everything about hotel operations, property development and asset management. We share the risks and rewards of our approach, and we make sure the returns make it all worthwhile. We make it sound simple, but it’s a formula that nobody else can match.

Cycas treatment

  • We work with institutional and private investors, utilising our skills to let them maximise the potential of their assets.
  • We are specialists in extended-stay hotels, and we frequently combine this with a full service hotel on the same site. Whatever it takes to deliver results, we do it.
  • We know how good we are but we want to get better and even bigger. We want to manage properties in the UK, Benelux, France and Germany as well as Central and Eastern Europe. The way we look at it, a smile is the same in any language.

Our focus is you

Our success is to be your success, by being better ourselves and making you part of our success.

We talk about fun because we know how important it is, but we also know when to take things seriously, and there’s nothing more serious than delivering value for our partners.

We initiate hotel transactions, selecting deals, performing due diligence, and structuring funding. Then we manage the development,

the pre-opening phase and ongoing operations. We make our guests happy and doing that delivers revenue for our investors. By combining this with a focus on controlling costs we strive to exceed our own benchmarks.

We believe in transparent communication, providing detailed and accurate reports on a regular basis.

We keep you in the loop by providing detailed and accurate reports on a regular basis.

Team

Our history

Eduard Elias and John Wagner are the men responsible for the creation of Cycas Hospitality. They each brought a unique set of talents to the creation of an extended stay hotel management company that delivers better, brighter and bigger than any other.

John was Vice President of Staybridge Suites and Hotel Indigo, EMEA, IHG, responsible for the development of

the Staybridge Suites brand. Eduard came from Cycas Capital, a boutique investment bank specialising in real estate finance and investing across Europe. They combined their skills as entrepreneurs and experience of owning, managing and financing hotels throughout Europe to create something even greater than the sum of its’ parts.

Who we work with

With 30 leading brands and 7,000+ properties across 132 countries and territories around the world, Marriott has been guided by family leadership since 1927 and their principles remain embedded in the company’s culture today.

Marriott and Cycas share the ambition to grow the number of extended-stay and lifestyle hotels in Europe and currently operate ten hotels together. Recognising the value to guests as well as investors of double-decker hotels, Cycas has helped Marriott develop its dual-branded hotel concept in Europe, with our first Moxy / Residence Inn venture in this area having opened in Amsterdam in January 2018 and our second coming to Slough in 2021.

In Summer 2019 Cycas welcomed our fourth IHG brand to the family, with Hotel Indigo joining Staybridge Suites, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.

Corporate responsibility

A large part of the Cycas success story is down to the kind of people we are. We’re the kind of people who like to spread happiness. Spread it everywhere and to everyone, from happy guests to happy investors and happy Cycadettes.

And it doesn’t stop there. Each of our hotels is a key part of its local community. A hub of happiness, good practice and well-being. That’s why we support local charities, and our Cycadettes jump at the chance to get involved and do their bit – in fact lots of bits – to make the world a better place.

Elsewhere on this site you’ll see the role we played in the 2012 London Olympics, building hotels, providing hospitality and offering the kind of welcome you’d expect from Cycas. It didn’t stop when the last medal had been won, however. Working with IHG and Newham College, the Holiday Inn London – Stratford City launched a hospitality training academy at Newham College. Local people can go to the college, learn about hospitality, gain practical work experience and even boost their chances of employment. Lots of people talk about the Olympic legacy, Cycas help to deliver it.

Our work in Stratford doesn’t end there. Both Holiday Inn London – Stratford City and Staybridge Suites London – Stratford City support a local children’s charity Richard House, London’s first children’s hospice. And by ‘support’, we mean get out there and get stuff done. A team member, from the Holiday Inn London – Stratford City, ran the 2015 London marathon and staff from both hotels were right behind him. Not just cheering him on (though they did, of course), but organising activities to maximise the funds raised.

At Staybridge Suites Liverpool, the Cycadettes work super hard making numerous good causes as happy as they make their guests. Charities to benefit from their effort and enthusiasm include the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal, Macmillan Coffee Morning and Comic Relief, and every Christmas they organise toys for the local children’s hospital and a food collection for the homeless.

Why the name?

We named ourselves after the Cycad palm. It’s lush, vibrant and pleasing to the eye. It’s also tough enough to survive an ice age and keeps blooming, growing and developing no matter what. Sound like anyone you know?

The Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam contributes to the conservation of cycads by cultivating and propagating the plants. The largest and oldest specimens in the Hortus can be found in the monumental palmhouse, including the more than 300-year-old Eastern Cape giant cycad, Encephalartos altensteinii. Also, many cycads have found a home in public and private gardens around the world. The Cycas Revoluta is one of the most popular cycads today, also called Sago Palm.
