About us

Since 2008, Cycas has been on a mission to keep translating our brilliant people and positively outrageous service into more fabulous hotels and exceptional commercial returns.

As the only truly pan-European, multi-brand, all-segment hotel operator, our diverse portfolio covers full and select-service properties as well as extended-stay hotels.

Hiring, developing and retaining top talent is the key to our business success. And, thanks to our distinctive performance culture, Cycas is consistently recognised as a ‘Best Place to Work in Hospitality’ and was crowned the UK hospitality industry’s Best Employer (Cateys 2018).

From an operational perspective, our track-record of outperformance, strong investor and brand relationships, and deep market knowledge ensure we deliver consistent RGI growth. As the preferred European operator for international hotel groups, Cycas is in the best place to help investors match the right brand with the right opportunity.

We make Cycas’s commitment to excellence sound simple, but it’s a formula that nobody else can match. If you’re equally ambitious about your business or career growth plans, get in touch and find out how we can help.

Cycas treatment

  • We work with institutional and private investors, using our skills to help them maximise the potential of their assets.
  • As the original extended-stay specialists, we frequently combine aparthotel brands with a full or select service hotel on the same site to create a double-decker hotel. Whatever it takes to deliver results, we do it.
  • We know how good we are but we want to get better and even bigger. With properties in the UK, Benelux, France and Germany, we continue to look for opportunities further afield across Western Europe. The way we look at it, a smile is the same in any language.

Our focus is you

Our success is to be your success, by being better ourselves and making you part of our success.

We talk about fun because we know how important it is, but we also know when to take things seriously, and there’s nothing more serious than delivering value for our partners.

We initiate hotel transactions, selecting deals, performing due diligence, and structuring funding. Then we manage the development,

the pre-opening phase and ongoing operations. We make our guests happy and doing that delivers revenue for our investors. By combining this with a focus on controlling costs we strive to exceed our own benchmarks.

We believe in transparent communication, providing detailed and accurate reports on a regular basis.

We keep you in the loop by providing detailed and accurate reports on a regular basis.

Our leadership team

Our history

When John Wagner and Eduard Elias came together to create Cycas Hospitality, their combined hotel and finance experience inspired a fresh approach to delivering true hospitality that continues to set us apart.

Together with their pioneering team and continued investment from the family-owned Huakee Group, Cycas soon evolved from being the industry’s extended-stay and dual-brand experts into a hotel management company

responsible for introducing a wide range of accommodation styles to Europe.

By putting their passion for people at the heart of the business and setting out to make our hotels the best places to work as well as stay, Cycas continues to lead the way in converting employee satisfaction into happy guests and delighted partners.

Who we work with

With 30 leading brands and 7,000+ properties across 132 countries and territories around the world, Marriott has been guided by family leadership since 1927 and their principles remain embedded in the company’s culture today.

Marriott and Cycas share the ambition to grow the number of extended-stay and lifestyle hotels in Europe and currently operate ten hotels together, including a new Courtyard by Marriott property opening by London City Airport in autumn 2020.

Recognising the value to guests as well as investors of double-decker hotels, Cycas helped Marriott develop its dual-branded hotel concept in Europe. Our first Moxy / Residence Inn venture opened in Amsterdam in January 2018 and our second is coming to Slough in 2021.

Corporate responsibility

A large part of the Cycas success story is down to the kind of people we are. We’re the kind of people who like to spread happiness everywhere, and to everyone. Because we understand better than anyone how cheerful Cycadettes translates into happy guests and delighted investors.

And it doesn’t stop there. Each of our hotels is a key part of its local community. A hub of happiness, good practice and well-being. That’s why we support local charities, and our Cycadettes jump at the chance to get involved and do their bit – in fact lots of bits – to make the world a better place.

Our Cycadettes are also famous for providing the kind of welcome that has inspired several guests to check in every week for nearly a decade. So when we talk about our guests being part of Cycas’s extended family, we really mean it.

Across each hotel, our Cycadettes work super hard to make great local causes as happy as they make their guests, from organising themed evening socials and fundraising coffee mornings to food collection for the homeless. Never afraid to get their hands dirty, our Staybridge Suites Vauxhall team even get stuck in regularly with farm chores at Vauxhall City Farm.

And when our hotels enjoy a well-deserved refresh, we make sure any surplus furniture get a nice new home. So in 2018 Staybridge Suites Liverpool donated all its old furniture to the North-West division of the British Heart Foundation. And a year later Staybridge Suites Newcastle saved over 1.5 tons from landfill by donating everything from sofas to kitchen equipment to local families in need via the Orange Box North East charity, with old blankets and duvets going to a local animal shelter.

And, thanks to the Responsible Business & Sustainability Charter Cycas created in 2018, we recognise our duty to make a positive impact on the environment as well as our guests. We’ve been championing the importance of full-size toiletries to minimise waste since opening our first property back in 2008, and are thrilled to have been chosen by Accor to open their first eco-lifestyle greet property outside France in Darmstadt.

We’re hugely proud that so many local charities and communities benefit from our teams’ effort and enthusiasm.

Why the name?

We named ourselves after the Cycad palm. It’s lush, vibrant and pleasing to the eye. It’s also tough enough to survive an ice age and keeps blooming, growing and developing no matter what. Sound like anyone you know?

The Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam contributes to the conservation of cycads by cultivating and propagating the plants. The largest and oldest specimens in the Hortus can be found in the monumental palmhouse, including the more than 300-year-old Eastern Cape giant cycad, Encephalartos altensteinii. Also, many cycads have found a home in public and private gardens around the world. The Cycas Revoluta is one of the most popular cycads today, also called Sago Palm.
