John Wagner is a citizen of the world in every respect, and brings that global perspective into effect across all aspects of Cycas Hospitality. He founded the company determined to use his experience to create something unique and make Cycas Hospitality the best place to work, as well as stay.
He has been involved in hotel marketing, operations and development for nearly 40 years, and his considerable influence on the extended-stay industry – both in the US and Europe – was recognised in 2018, when he received the industry inspiration / lifetime achievement award at the Serviced Apartment Awards.
Before Cycas, John was a Vice President at InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). In 2003, IHG asked John to research, plan and develop Staybridge Suites Hotels for the Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EMEA) region. This meant adapting and rolling out the US-only brand in a manner that met European expectations. Earlier European experience came via his tenure as Vice President Sales and Marketing, Europe, with Choice Hotels, and his time as President and owner of a hotel management company based in the Czech Republic.
Residence Inn is the leading extended stay brand in the US, and before conquering Europe, John was Marriott’s first Sales and Marketing Vice President for the brand, with responsibility for the Sales and Marketing of its first 125 hotels.
Capitalising on his in-depth knowledge and experience within the extended-stay industry, John was elected to the Association of Serviced Apartment Providers (ASAP) Steering Committee in summer 2017 and appointed Deputy Chair of the ASAP Advisory Board in 2018.
John combines all of this experience with a Bachelor degree in marketing to deliver the concept development and site feasibility, sales and marketing and hotel operations for Cycas. Born and raised in America, he is now a British citizen and lives in Amsterdam, but has also lived and worked in Paris, Prague and London, all of which comes together in the way Cycas operates. The best of the US and Europe brought together in the shape of the Cycas Hospitality experience.
